I had great teachers in high school that I really looked up to. Also, my dad is a teacher and I have always admired how much of a difference he has made in his students' lives. I too wish to make a difference for our future generations.
What is your key to success in the classroom?
PATIENCE. Each student is unique and has specific needs. You must meet each one where they are at and challenge them to reach their goals, all while having patience because some will reach their goals faster than others.
How do you engage students?
Math can be boring. I try my best to incorporate situations students can identify with. For example, percentages in video games and ratios of texting per minute. I love singing and dancing to songs related to math, I guess that is the Cheer Coach in me. The kids seem to enjoy it.
What do you love about teaching?
I love seeing a student regain confidence and discover they can be successful. It's rewarding to witness students reach goals that they have worked for all year long. Teaching is full of positive and negative experiences both of which I view as effective tools to become a better teacher.
