Why did you choose education as your career?

I chose to become a teacher to inspire children to reach their goals and achieve their dreams. I make a positive difference in the future of a child.  I also chose education as my career so that I have the opportunity to make a day-to-day difference in the life of a child and I enjoy being a positive influence in the lives of our youth.

What is your key to success in the classroom?

The key to success in my classroom is maintaining structure so that everyone can learn and is capable of learning. Encouragement and support for one another is a key to success in helping the children help themselves and also guide their peers. It is important to have flexibility in the classroom and be able to modify and adapt quickly to create teachable moments.

How do you engage your students?

I engage students by meeting them at their interest level and their needs. School is a place to learn but is also a place to have fun! I try and make everything we do fun and exciting. Understanding their development and the stage of maturity they are at in their lives is important.  I like to let them be kids and I enjoy making the learning hands on and memorable.

What do you love about teaching?

I love the smiling faces, the hugs and laughter. I love the feeling I get when I see children make connections or experience teachable moments. I love to see the children experience things for the first time, like reading a book. I love watching them grow to understand the world around them and fall in love with learning.
