NCHS student wins 1st place in Computer Applications tournament

Kaitlyn Blackstock and Deitra O’Neill January 25, 2017 | Thinking Innovatively | New Caney High School Junior Kaitlyn Blackstock won 1st place in Computer Applications at the Willis High School Invitational tournament held on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Blackstock attended the event with her coach, Deitra O’Neill. This was her very first high school UIL competition.

In the competition, students had 30 minutes to complete an Excel spreadsheet using functions, make a chart from the spreadsheet, and embed the chart into a Word document. In some of the Computer Applications contests, students must create a database using Access and export data from the database to a Word document.

Kaitlyn scored 248 out of a possible 250 points. Her only mistake was one typo due to adding an “s” at the end of a word.

Her next competition will be the UIL Invitational B Computer Applications contest, which will be held at New Caney High School on Feb. 18, 2017.
