PHS DECA

Jan. 21, 2016 | Academically Prepared | On Saturday, Jan. 16, members from the Porter High School DECA made their way to Klein High School for the District V Career Development Conference (CDC).

The Spartan DECA members competed in 11 events at the conference. Porter advanced in ten out of 11 events with 21 students advancing to the Texas DECA CDC in San Antonio, which is a new school record.

The Spartans were also recognized during the awards ceremony for their participation in several campaigns leading into district play.

The first campaign Porter was recognized in was their membership campaign. In order to be recognized, chapters had to add 20 new members, 20 professional members, and/or 20 alumni members. Porter added 25 new members to reach a new record of 80 student members. Porter also added 22 professional members and two alumni members for a total enrollment of 104 members. By adding 20 student and professional members, Porter secured three spots at the prestigious THRIVE Academy at the International Career Development Conference in Nashville.

Porter was also recognized for completing promotional and community service campaigns, which gave the Spartans three more spots at THRIVE Academy.

Now, the Spartans will set their sights on bigger and better things, as they will compete for the opportunity to participate at DECA ICDC in Nashville.
