Cross Country is a distance running sport. Runners compete in meets for both individual places and an overall team place. Usually the top 10-20 runners in a division (such as boys/girls) will receive a medal for their individual effort, however their efforts will go towards the team placement as well. Both boys and girls run a two mile trail marked on various terrain, such as wooded trails, sports fields, track surfaces. The terrain may or may not be flat, based on the course, and there may be some intense hills involved in some of the courses we will run. 
Students do not have to be in athletics to run cross country, however they must have a physical on file with the trainer. The physical must be completed since May 2017 and be on the official Athletics Physical form which can be printed at http://www.newcaneyisd.org/Page/469  
Every athlete MUST have a current physical on file with the KCMS Athletic Trainer before they can participate in try-outs.  
Try-outs will take place on Wednesday, August 30th immediately after school.
All athletes (boys and girls) will meet in the PE gym once dressed out then try-outs will move outside.
Try-outs will wrap up at 5:30pm and athletes MUST be picked up by 5:45pm.   
Students are not "cut" from participating in the cross country practices, and participation is highly encouraged for athletes that want to participate in running-intensive sports such as basketball, track and soccer.
Each week of a meet, athletes are working to earn a spot on that week's travel team that will compete in the upcoming meet. 
Not all athletes in cross country are guaranteed a spot in a meet, however hard work, improvement, a great attitude and consistency in practice will go a long ways in helping to earn a spot to travel to a meet.
Will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Athletes will meet on the track at 4:00pm.
Any athlete not there by that time will have "reminders". 
Practice will wrap up at 5:30pm and athletes MUST be picked up by 5:45pm.
There will be an early morning practice on Thursdays and Friday for boys involved in Football. That practice will run from 7:00am-7:50am. Athletes should be dropped off no earlier than 6:45am.
