Did you Know?
We are responsible for the daily transportation of almost 8,500 students on home-to-school routes. Transportation Services routes every student in the district, so if they decide to ride the bus they will already have a schedule.
On our last fuel drop we paid $1.59/gallon for unleaded and $1.66/gallon for diesel. (Don't forget that the school district is exempt from certain taxes)! We use approximately 7,500 gallons of diesel every 8 school days, when school is in session.
With the exception of warranty work, almost all maintenance for district vehicles is done on site. We run a fleet maintenance crew from 5:00am to 12:00am Monday thru Friday. Our Director of Transportation Services and Fleet Manager are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for after hours emergencies. These may include accidents/incidents, breakdowns, facility access, scheduling issues, and vehicle availability issues.
Our department is home to over 275 employees, including coaches who assist us with driving athletics trips.
The Texas Education Agency requires school bus drivers to have a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements. They must also have a physical annually and drug screen. Drivers are also required by the State to attend a 20-hour School Bus Driver Training Course given by the Education Service Centers. New Caney ISD Transportation goes above and beyond the State minimums by also requiring:
- 25 hours of classroom training including Special Needs curriculum for new employees and 30+ hours of behind-the-wheel training
- Crisis Prevention Training (Annually)
- CPR and First Aid Training, including the use of an AED (Bi-Annually)
- Behind-the-wheel instruction (Bi-Annually)
- Classroom Training (Bi-Annually)
- Advanced School Bus Driver Training
- Annual Refresher training in: Worker's Compensation, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Operation Lifesaver
Our operations personnel include:
- 1 Master Official
- 3 Certified Officials
- 3 Certified Supervisors
*These certification levels through Texas Association for Pupil Transportation require rigorous training with some levels having over 100 hours of training!
We have 4 instructors on staff that teach courses for Region IV Education Service Center.

With almost 15,000 students, that's 1 office management position for every 1,875 students! We encourage parents to please be patient as our district is experiencing extreme growth, and that means more phone calls from the community. Our goal is to call parents/citizens back within 48 hours of their initial call. Also, please be aware that members of our office management team work shifts, as we are open from 4:45am-6:00pm daily.
