Hello Sorters Mill School Community,
My name is Hollie Hanks and I am EXCITED to be the new principal for the Sorters Mill Elementary Tigers! I have officially moved into my new office over the summer and have begun meeting many of the fabulous staff members and teachers of SME. I have also been busy attending several district meetings and learning daily about New Caney ISD.
I would like to share with you my professional experiences thus far in my career as a public educator. This school year will be my twenty-second year in education and during that time I have been privileged to serve in many different roles such as a classroom teacher, middle school and high school counselor, district facilitator and coordinator, elementary assistant principal and elementary principal. I am a life-long learner and strive to improve my professional skills each and every day in order to be the best educational leader I possibly can be for student and staff success.
On a personal note, I have been happily married to a fellow educator for twenty-two years and we have two amazing children. My son will be a junior in high school this year and my daughter will be in the eighth grade. We live nearby in Atascocita where we are close to family and friends.
The beginning of a new school year is approaching quickly and much work has been done this summer to prepare for our students. The teachers have attended important trainings this summer, new technology for student learning has been put in place and the custodians have cleaned the building. We are all very eager to serve the needs of our students and look forward to a partnership with families that will enable all children to be successful.
Prior to the beginning of a new school year, parents often ask for advice in helping their children get off to a good start in school. A good transition back to school can go a long way in helping a child achieve success. The following are just a few suggestions that can help ease your child and family back into the school routine:
I hope these few hints will help this be one of the best school years ever! I look forward to meeting everyone in this great school community soon. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can help you this school year.
