New Caney ISD announces elementary school attendance zone changes

December 13, 2016 The New Caney ISD Board of Trustees approved a change in the elementary school boundaries in order to plan for the opening of Dogwood Elementary and to balance out the enrollment at other campuses.

The action was taken December 12, 2016 at the regularly scheduled board meeting. The district’s newest campus, Dogwood Elementary School, replaces Aikin Elementary and is being built on the same site in Roman Forest. Dogwood Elementary is expected to be completed by August 2017.

Jim Grant, Executive Director of Operations, made a presentation to the board explaining where the new boundaries would be and what areas would be impacted by the change.

Approximately 835 students will be affected by the boundary changes: 631 students from Tavola Elementary will move to Dogwood Elementary; 115 students from New Caney Elementary will move to Tavola Elementary; 89 students from Oakley Elementary will move to Tavola.

Letters will be sent to parents of students affected by the attendance zone changes in January 2017.
