Elementary school #11 named Brookwood Forest Elementary School at April Board of Trustees meeting

New Caney ISD Elementary School #11 was officially named Brookwood Forest Elementary School at the Board of Trustees’ regular meeting April. 17. The school will be located on Sorters Road in Porter near the Brookwood Forest subdivision. The Board also awarded a contract to Drymalla Construction Company for the school's construction. Construction begins this spring. Brookwood Elementary School is scheduled to open for the 2018-19 school year.

Dogwood Elementary construction progresses, school now live on web and social media

Dogwood Elementary School is approximately 70% complete overall with much of the remaining work now focused on the interior, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work as well as painting, tiling and case work. The Dogwood Elementary School website is now live, and you can also follow the school on Facebook (/DogwoodElemSchool) and on Twitter (@Dogwood_Elem).

Work on the expansion at Porter High School is approximately 75% complete, also now focused largely on interior finishes.

Board approves design agreement for White Oak renovations, Dogwood Elementary construction progressing

The New Caney ISD Board of Trustees awarded a design/construction delivery method agreement for renovations at White Oak Middle School to Corgan Architects at its January regular meeting. White Oak will receive a pre-ag classroom addition as well as other updates. Also, Dogwood Elementary School, scheduled to open for the 2017-18 school year, is approximately 65% complete overall. While structural steel, roofing, and the exterior walls are nearly completion, interior work is approximately 40% complete.

New Caney ISD hosts groundbreaking ceremony for Infinity Early College High School

New Caney ISD held a groundbreaking ceremony Jan. 12 to celebrate the construction of the new Infinity Early College High School campus. The event highlighted the partnership and long-term vision of New Caney ISD and Lone Star College Kingwood to provide an early college high school for students. Graduates will not only obtain a high school diploma from New Caney ISD but also earn their two-year associates degree through Lone Star College Kingwood. 

Infinity Early College High School was created in 2013 and will graduate its first class of seniors this May. The graduating class was in attendance for the historical event along with district, college and community representatives. The campus will house grades 9-12 with students taking college courses each year.

The new Infinity Early College High School campus will be located at 26751 Sorters Rd. next to Lone Star College Kingwood. It will be approximately 47,000 square feet in size.

Board approves issuance for second installment of 2015 bond

The Board of Trustees authorized the issuance of school building and refunding bonds at its regular monthly meeting, December 12, 2016. Doug Whitt of SAMCO Capital Markets, the district’s financial adviser, presented the Board with an update of the plan of finance for the bond referendum approved by voters in May 2015. In June 2015, the Board authorized the first $90 million of the $173 million approved by voters. In December, the Board authorized the remaining $83 million.

Bond projects go through a design phase and a bid process before construction begins. The first phase of projects began in the summer of 2015 and the second phase began in the summer of 2016. First phase projects include additions at White Oak Middle School and Porter High School; the building of a new elementary school, an early college high school, and a district aquatic center; and technology infrastructure updates across the district. The first projects of phase two include renovations at New Caney Middle School, New Caney High School, and the construction of Elementary School #11. All three projects are in the design phase.

Elementary school #10 named Dogwood Elementary School at November Board of Trustees meeting

New Caney ISD Elementary School #10 was officially named Dogwood Elementary School at the Board of Trustees’ regular meeting Nov. 14. The school is currently being built at the site of Aikin Elementary School which closed at the end of the 2014-15 school year. Dogwood Elementary School will open for the 2017-18 school year. Construction at the campus is approximately 30% complete overall.

Board approves construction contract for early college campus

The New Caney ISD Board of Trustees awarded a construction contract for Infinity Early College High School to Pepper Lawson Construction at its regular meeting this month. Design of the early college campus was completed at the end of the summer. NCISD Director of Facility Planning and Construction Richard Gates reported to the Board that the foundation for Elementary School #10 is complete. The parking lot is nearing completion and structural steel installation is approximately 75% complete. The school is approximately 22% complete overall. Also, work at Porter High School is approximately 20% complete. Structural steel installation and the additional parking area are complete. Roof work is approximately 40% complete.
