New Caney ISD's Gifted and Talented Program
The New Caney ISD elementary and secondary Gifted and Talented Program meets the needs of students who have demonstrated complex thinking skills and a need for academic challenge and rigor.  The instruction provides depth and complexity, critical thinking, problem solving, and creative thinking.  GT students are given opportunitiesto develop innovative products that reflect individuality and creativity.
 
A gifted student is one who performs at or has the potential of performing at a significantly high level of accomplishment in comparison to others of the same age, experience and/or environment. Gifted students are found in all cultural groups and economic levels.
 
NCISD provides differentiated curriculum that is both advanced and enriched for students for students identifed as exceptional learners. 
 
How do I know a student is gifted?
It is important to remember that there are not one or two characteristics that an educatorcan point to in order to say that a student is gifted. It is a combination of characteristics.Some signs that a student might be gifted include, but not limited to:
  • Extraordinary memory compared to peers 
  • Highly curious
  • Highly creative
  • Exhibits abstract reasoning and problem solving skills
  • Draws inferences, grasps underlying principles
  • Initiates projects
  • Discusses things in detail, elaborates
